    • Named after the emblematic cedar tree that dominates the terrace of Quinta do Noval, Cedro do Noval is an authentic expression of the Douro. The Cedro Reserva is made from a strict selection of grapes from the very finest high mountain terroirs among the many vineyards that we work with. The varieties used in this wine are Viosinho and Gouveio.

    • Characteristics of the vintage

A rainy winter and mild summer provided ideal conditions for grape maturation, resulting in fresh and complex wines, both in Port and DOC Douro wines.
The wet spring resulted in an early budbreak in March, followed by a cool start to summer, which delayed veraison until July, ensuring balanced ripening. Despite some water stress in younger vines during August, maturation was homogeneous in September, enhancing the quality of the grapes. The dry heat of August did not harm the vines, as deep water reserves in the soil maintained balanced growth. September brought mild days and cool nights, allowing for slow phenolic maturation and optimal harvesting conditions.
The 2024 harvest took place in almost perfect conditions, ensuring a year of outstanding quality.

    • Harvest

On 28th August and 6th September.

    • Vinification

      - All the varieties are destemmed and lightly crushed before the initial pressing.
      - Most of the wine is fermented in stainless steel vats to preserve aromatic purity.
      - 35% is fermented in 225-litre French oak barrels, of which 20% are new, adding structure and complexity to the wine.
      - No malolactic fermentation.

    • Blend

      55% Viosinho, 45% Gouveio

    • Maturing

65% in stainless stell vats, 20% in new French oak barrels, 15% in second-year oak barrels for 5 months.
The wines in barrels are bâtonnaged three times per week during the first month after completing the alcoholic fermentation. After that just once a week for another three months.

    • Tasting notes

Cedro do Noval Reserva white wine is crafted from the Viosinho and Gouveio grape varieties, giving character and complexity to the blend. The nose is intense and captivating, with fresh citrus and peach notes enhanced by elegant floral nuances. On the palate, it reveals a silky texture and fine acidity, highlighting vibrant flavours of lemon, ripe peach, subtle hints of wild herbs and a distinctive mineral undertone. A subtle touch of oak provides a refined structure, while the long, expressive finish highlights the wine's purity and depth.
This 2024 Cedro do Noval Reserva white wine is fresh, vibrant and full of character, reflecting the unique terroir of the region made of schist.
