Characteristics of the vintage
The 2024 growing season was marked by a sequence of near perfect weather conditions, with a winter generous in rainfall and a mild early summer, allowing the vines to begin the season in excellent condition. August and September, with their sunny days and cool nights, enabled the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. The result: berries with bright acidity, silky tannins and deep concentration, promising both Port wines and DOC Douro wines that combine freshness and complexity.
A cooler than average early summer slightly delayed veraison until mid-July, allowing the grapes to develop and ripen with balance. While some young vines experienced water stress in August, the rainfall accumulated during winter created a valuable natural reserve, ensuring even ripening and homogeneous phenolic development in September, revealing the quality of this vintage.
August, dry and without rainfall, put the vines' resilience to the test. Fortunately, deep water reserves inherited from winter precipitation acted as a form of natural irrigation. Old vines, in particular, drew on these resources to maintain their vitality, preserving green, dense canopies and producing grapes of outstanding quality.Harvest
Harvest took place from 4th September to 11th October for the red varieties. September conditions—mild days and cool nights—allowed for slow and precise phenolic maturation, with each variety harvested at its optimal level of flavour, aroma and concentration. Two rainfall events in mid-September had no impact on grape quality.
This year, the Touriga Nacional and Touriga Francesa varieties clearly emerged as the stars of the vintage. They reached optimal ripeness, displaying intense colour and exceptional aromatic complexity. Other red varieties (Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz, Sousão, Syrah, Tinta Barroca) also performed superbly, offering a perfect balance between sugars and acidity. Touriga Nacional stood out for its depth and aromatic complexity, while Touriga Francesa, favoured by stable weather conditions, fully revealed its potential this year.Terroir

Tasting notes
Quinta do Passadouro Vintage Port 2024 is deep in colour, with an expressive nose shaped by the distinctive floral character of Vale de Mendiz. Violet, rockrose and wild herbs are set against notes of blackberry, black cherry and plum, giving the wine freshness and a clear sense of place. On the palate, it is generous but well balanced, with ample fruit, lively freshness and finely integrated tannins. The floral profile remains evident throughout, bringing lift, complexity and distinction. The finish is long, poised and persistent. A Vintage Port of character and definition, with very good ageing potential.
